Autumn Blues

Autumn feels like a sobering time, colours changing, leaves falling…the dread of what lies ahead in the colder months ahead within a world not at peace. Then this suddenly appears one night completely unexpected whilst out walking my dog.

I’m uplifted and excited for a time. I’ve been to Iceland and not seen such a spectacular vision.

What does it mean when life still has the ability to take you by surprise? Could it a promise of hope or an impending warning of change?

Mindfulness teaches us about remaining present but this also means being adaptable to ever changing moments. And that’s hard to navigate alone. Although there are guides to our practice, it doesn’t mean we are meant to go it alone. Often things are easier with others there. Their presence alone means they too are witnessing, supporting, experiencing emotions just as we are too. Performers, athletes, artists manage better with support. It’s a strange thing as yoga teachers that we move from a practice we loved to suddenly becoming a one way stream. That was never supposed to happen. Teachers still had their teachers and a form of life long support within their profession.

Turning a new decade this month, it is time for me to go back to my roots, offering monthly classes and support. I’m excited that I can continue to offer a lifetime’s work of teacher training, now up and running online. And dedicate time to reconnecting with old friendly faces and meeting some new ones too.

Wrap up this windy Autumn and brace yourselves for the ever changing present moment.
